The Transformative Virtual Dementia Tour

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, over 5 million Americans are living with a form of dementia. Estimates project that one in every six women and one in every ten men living past the age of 55 will develop a form of dementia.

With dementia, activities that were once easy and familiar can become challenging and frustrating. Familiar places can become scary and strange. The life that you once knew changes forever over time into something different.

While prevention is key and research can help pinpoint the contributing factors, caregivers need resources now to better understand their loved ones with dementia. Our Virtual Dementia Tour is one way to bridge the gap between families and loved ones with dementia.

Being a caregiver for an adult with dementia is challenging, but have you ever considered taking a walk in their shoes? A dementia virtual tour gives you that opportunity in a professional environment with patented sensory tools and instruction.

What Is the Virtual
Dementia Tour?

The Option Group facilitates ground-breaking dementia virtual tours that build awareness in caregivers and family members. The tour combines patented sensory tools and research-based instruction for a transformative experience. Each participant wears special devices to alter their senses.

The objectives of the tour include exercises and common everyday tasks. During a Virtual Dementia Tour, you will experience the physical and mental challenges that adults with dementia face firsthand. Each session is hands-on and led by one of our experienced facilitators.

Who Can Benefit from a Dementia Virtual Tour?

Originally designed for professional healthcare training purposes, dementia tours are now available to the general public, allowing anyone to experience the effects of dementia. A virtual dementia tour will increase your understanding and empathy for any loved one struggling with the disease.

An evidence-based Virtual Dementia Tour also can show the alarming progression of the disease over time. Because Alzheimer’s can have such big differences between each stage, the tour takes you from the first stages to the end stages of the disease process. Other dementia simulators are less comprehensive and don’t give you the full experience of living with dementia.

How Does Dementia Affect All of Us?

Decades ago, dementia was commonly viewed as a problem in nursing homes and senior care facilities. Today, with more of our population aging at home, our communities, families, and businesses are all exposed to individuals with dementia, Myocardial Brain Infarction related impairments, and Alzheimer’s.

When professionals, families, and healthcare workers understand the challenges that their patients and loved ones face, they can ‘meet them where they are’ . As the saying goes, walking a mile in someone else’s shoes can transform your point of view. Living with dementia is a challenge, and a Virtual Dementia Tour will allow you to walk in their shoes for a greater understanding.
